Gumnut Workshops
We offer fortnightly process-based workshops for children to attend alongside their parent or another trusted adult. These workshops aim to engage children in activities that are not only tons of fun and very messy, but build their self-confidence and foster creativity.
Creative Experiences For All Ages
Recommended for our younger friends (6m - 18m), the Sensory Snails workshop is centered around introducing children to a range of materials, textures, and experiences through sensory and messy play. Each session will feature a big, messy group activity that promotes the development of fine-motor skills and hand-eye coordination while simultaneously encouraging creativity, curiosity, and problem-solving.
Sensory Snails
Recommended for our older friends (18m - 3y), the Artsy Ants workshop introduces children to a wide range of mediums, materials, tools, and techniques. We emphasise the importance of the process rather than the end result, building the children’s self-confidence and supporting them to engage in pressure-free creative exploration. Each session will feature a big, messy group art experience that is perfect for creative exploration and expression.

Hi, I’m Thea!
I’m the creator of and carer for The Gap Gumnuts. My time working in big daycare centers taught me the importance of a warm, welcoming, and secure environment for babies and toddlers. I started The Gap Gumnuts to offer an education and care experience that aligned with those beliefs. I’m passionate about building strong relationships with each of my little visitors, and providing them with opportunities for play and discovery that will foster a lifelong sense of curiosity and love of learning within them.
I hold a Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care, alongside many relevant trainings and certificates including First Aid, CPR, Safe Sleeping, Child Protection, Food Safety, and Emergency Response.
What To Expect
Each session is held in a private residence on a fully fenced-off and partially-shaded concrete patio. Activities will encourage children and adults to collaborate as a group and get messy together, so please wear something you’re happy to get covered in paint!
A private area for nappy changes and breast-feeding will be available, and a shared bathroom will be accessible if needed. Please note that all adults residing at the premises hold a current blue card.
Both the Sensory Snails and Artsy Ants sessions offer:
Small group sizes of maximum 5 children/families
Different tools and mediums each session
Opportunity to make a mess alongside your little one without worrying about the clean-up
Chance for both children and adults to socialise at their own pace in a pressure-free environment
Development and refinement of fine motor skills such as hand-eye coordination, grip strength, finger dexterity, and muscle control.
Development of learning dispositions such as creativity, curiosity, resilience, confidence, cooperation and perseverance alongside skills to support learning such as problem-solving, experimentation, inquiry, and investigating
